[FIXED] 98' Honda Accord pass side fuse box 10A fuse blown

I have a 1998 Honda Accord LX with about 70k miles and the 10A courtesy light fuse keeps blowing, its located on the passenger side . This fuse also controls tail lights, parking lights, and instrument cluster lights. Can anyone out there provide me with some insight as where to start?

does it blow instantly? or does it take a few days? if it does blow instantly there is a short to ground... is it an lx ex or dx?? the diagrams are different.

Does it blow immediately after being inserted or after you turn on your headlights or other scenario?

It is a LX. It blows after i turn light switch one click. One time it lasted a full day, other than that it blows anytime I turn switch.

well you could remove the fuse and put in place a headlight bulb it will light due to the short. and start unplugging things until it goes out. or remove the headlight switch and use a fused jumper wire between pins 6 and 7. red/green red/black and take the switch out of the equation

Exactly what I was going to suggest. This is much better than continually swapping fuses, and gives you a nice visual clue.

Here's a link to the courtesy lights diagram, from BBB Industries . Let me know if this works.

IMO, the rear lights are the most suspect, so I'd suggest going there first. Keep your eyes open for melted connectors and wiring. Everything up and to the bulbs themselves is suspect. Also, check out the top of the second page, C554. That's the power feed to all the rear courtesy lights. If we can ID and unplug that connector, and the short goes away, then we can be pretty confident the short is in the rear.

Unfortunately, I can't trace connector locations on BBB Industries, maybe someone else with access to service info can help me out? :cheer:

Sometimes? :lol: Fantastic coverage for connector locations/pinouts on domestics, hit and miss for imports. Really wish I could find a free source for stuff like this. :angry:

I had a 97 (previous generation) with the same problem. On the passenger's side of the car, under the hood where the wire loom comes out of the fire wall and into the underhood fuse box, there was wire damage that was intermittently shorting out and blowing the "Small Lamps" fuse in the interior fuse panel.

It would be a long shot to say the least if this ended up actually being the problem, but I just wanted to share my experience with you.

I found the culprit!!! A wire harness (red wire) under the air filter box was pinched and touching metal.

Sweet! :woohoo: Well done, jjgarcia. Finding shorts to ground is almost never an easy job. :cheer:

I ended up picking the right diagram for fuse #10, and I believe you were looking at C554. That the breaker kept popping after you disconnected it makes sense since you found the short up front. Nice job on the breaker, by the way. ;)

Is that the red/black wire burned through? Since you found it under the air filter box, I'd suspect that wire is actually in this area on the diagram:
